Cherokee Goes Off-Road: Jeep Introduces the 2027 Cherokee Trailhawk
October 07 2026,
The 2027 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk adds a Trail Rated 4x4 to a hybrid SUV, and it shows up with a long list of standard off-road hardware. For Quebec shoppers who want one vehicle for the commute and the back road, this is the trim to watch.
It seats five, runs a 1.6 L turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid, and brings a two-speed power transfer unit that Jeep calls class-exclusive. Here is what is confirmed so far.
What Is Confirmed on the Cherokee Trailhawk
The Trailhawk pairs a 1.6 L turbocharged inline-4 with a hybrid system. The engine makes 177 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque; the full system delivers 210 hp and 230 lb-ft. It runs on regular unleaded, 87 octane, and an eCVT power-split transmission handles the shifting. The 400-volt, 1.08 kWh battery recharges through brake regeneration.
Jeep’s brand-estimated fuel economy is 7.5 L/100 km combined. Final NRCan certification may differ.
The 4x4 hardware is the real story. Jeep Active Drive II with Lock Mode works with a two-speed power transfer unit: a 2.92 low range ratio and a 37.5:1 crawl ratio. An electronic locking rear axle adds traction. Jeep calls the two-speed unit class-exclusive. On steep, loose or rocky ground, that low range lets you climb without riding the brakes.
Selec-Terrain offers five modes: Auto, Sport, Snow, Sand/Mud and Rock. The Snow mode matters in a Quebec winter, and the Sand/Mud mode suits gravel and cottage-road ruts.
Built for the Trail: Key Off-Road Specs
The off-road suspension carries a 2.5 cm (1-inch) lift. Ground clearance is 227 mm. Unique spring and damper tuning gives a 45-point Ramp Travel Index improvement over other Cherokee models, the standard test for axle articulation.
The angles are 28.8 degrees approach, 21.9 degrees breakover and 31.8 degrees departure. Water fording depth is 609 mm, and Jeep notes the Trailhawk is the only SUV in its class with that rating.
Underneath, steel skid plates guard the front axle, wiring and fuel tank. A separate plate protects the hybrid battery. Red tow hooks sit front and rear, and 17-inch wheels wear 245/65R17 Nexen all-terrain tires.

What Matters for Shoppers Now
The Trailhawk is the single Cherokee trim on the Canadian roster so far, so the decision is about packages, not trims. Standard equipment already covers a lot: a 10.25-inch digital cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, LED headlamps and taillamps, and fog lamps.
Comfort is covered too. Power heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, memory seating and mirrors, and a foot-activated power liftgate are all standard. Mantis Green upholstery with red accent stitching, a Black Spun Aluminum shift dial and a Radical Red dial bezel set the cabin apart from other Cherokees.
Three options sit on top. The Sun and Sound Package adds a dual-pane sunroof and a Premium Alpine audio system. The Advanced Pro Tech Group adds ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, camera washers and a 360-degree camera. The Trailering Package unlocks the 3,500 lbs (1,587 kg) tow rating.
One practical note: the dual-pane sunroof trims front headroom from 1,023 mm to 965 mm. Taller drivers will want to sit in one before choosing it.
The hybrid setup also keeps range reasonable, with a 51.9 L fuel tank behind that 7.5 L/100 km estimate.
What Comes Next for Quebec Buyers
The Cherokee Trailhawk enters production later this year at Stellantis’ Toluca Assembly Complex. Canadian customers will be able to place orders later this year.
